An investigation into project delivery challenges faced by the construction companies in Polokwane Local Municipality, Limpopo Province, South Africa

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate project delivery challenges faced by the construction companies in the Polokwane local municipality, Limpopo province, South Africa. The objectives of the study were to identify factors that impact the project, determine the challenges that impact project delivery in construction companies, and evaluate how deliverables impact the construction companies. The researcher employed a qualitative method to establish construction companies' challenges in the Polokwane local municipality. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with 12 project managers. The findings reveal that financial constraints, poor planning, and unskilled labour impact project delivery negatively. However, it was revealed that frequent monitoring and evaluation, cost and risk management can improve project delivery. The study further explored the best strategies that can be employed in improving construction companies. This study has a beneficial impact on the overall body of knowledge.
