Abstract:
The main purpose of this terminology list is to promote better communication between learners and teachers and to educate the general public.
The following terminological units form part of the terminological data corpus of the Arts and Culture terms:
Main entry
The main entry contains all the information concerning the concept, including the synonyms, proper names,
loanwords, abbreviations, definition, note, equivalents, etc. and has the preferred term as headword.
3D-painting = three-dimensional painting
Standardisation
The Terminology Coordination Section of the NLS prepared the source text in English with definitions. After
the completion of the source text it was sent to domain/subject field specialists for verification. Terminologists completed provisional equivalents in their target languages in consultation with subject field experts, as well as using other available sources of information. Terms were discussed, standardised and finalised by collaborators. There were various linguists and individual members of National Language Bodies
(NLBs) who worked through the list to verify the content of the target languages.
Treatment of the source language text
Headword: The list consists of a headword in the source language which is English. When a headword is a homonym, a separate entry should be created, e.g. chant as verb and chant as noun.
