Abstract:
Corporate governance practices are increasingly being accepted as representing best practice in the governance of virtually all the different types of organisations. While considerable research has been undertaken in the broad area of governance of universities across the globe, there is hardly evidence of in-depth studies on the applicability of corporate governance principles in the tertiary education sector, particularly
regarding public universities. This study sought to attempt a preliminary desk study intended as a precursor to detailed analysis of whether and how corporate governance practices (best practice) can be applied to the tertiary education sector.
